Bill of Rights

After the Constitution was approved by the delegates of the constitution covention, the state had to vote to approved it. Many of those who fought for  rights during the Revolutionary War were not happy with it. they wanted the Constitution to more clearly protect the rights of citizens.

In 1791, the states aproved the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, to protect the rights. Which to day they are known as the Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights begins by protecting basic rights:

The First Amendment guarantees 5 freedoms:  freedom of
religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of petition

Just as important as basic freedom is the rights to "due process of the law". Due of the law means the government must follow rules established by law. Together, the fourth through eighth amendments protect the rights to due process. they make sure that people are not arrested unfairly. They also guarantee people fair trials and fair punishments
